What was cause gas pouring out of my tank around the fuel pump on a 1996 Jeep cherokee inline sixnew feul pump

I dont usually put too much gas in but decided to fill it, when I did gas came pouring out from around or near the new fuel pump, I smelled gas before from the rear dr side of the vehicle, it has had a full tank of gas in ages, when we filled it, it poured out. What could be the cause?

Could be the hose as mentioned, but it would also be the O-ring may not have been installed on the pump, so when the tank is pull it is forcing its way around the pump and flowing over the top of the tank.

What size fish tank air pump do I need?

could be you over filled it but there is a rubber hose between the tank and where you fill it.. could be bad…. ive always called it a filler neck hose

I’d guess that whoever installed the new fuel pump forgot to tighten the hoses, or poaaibly he forgot to install the vent hose all together. I sold an 01 Focus to buy my Jeep and the day before the guy picked it up the pump went bad so I had the dealership put a new one in. They forgot to attache the filler hose completely so when the guy was filling up on his way home it poured straight onto the ground. I was glad that I told him about having the pump changed or he’d have been REALLY upset with me. As it was the dealership towed him into the shop where they fixed it and paid for his gas.

the hose is probably not properly installed on the fuel pump its probably lose or you could have a hole in the hose allowing gas to leak or a bad seal
