where is the check valve located on a submersible well water pump?

on most well pumps the check valve is built into the head of the pump right where the pipe connects to the pump. if it does not have abuilt in valve it will be connected to the top of the pump with a pipe nipple

    It is on the pipe that comes out of the ground between the floor and the pump. It is usually brass and about 3 1/2" long.

    I’m not sure about subs, but they were right on above ground pumps. Seems to me subnercibles may not need a check valve. They’re in clean water amd all they do is push water. No pulling it.

    You can have 2 check valves, one is at the bottom of the pump way down, and that is a spring loaded check valve, all brass construction. The other is located right near the top of the pipe seal.

    Should your bottom check valve start leaking, you do not have to pull the well, you can install a 2nd check valve right next to that main pipe seal quite easily.

    If you follow James M instructions for repairing a check valve you will have vacumn from the water level to the new check valve any time your pump is not running. ANY leak below the check will suck in whatever is there. Air, dirt, mud, bacteria?

    In my Jurisdiction it is not legal to install a check valve on any water system above 25′ below ground surface unless it is protected from things like dirt, mud, and bacteria.

    inside the top of the pump where the pipe fittings screw in if it has one…if it doesn’t then you will need to buy a inline check valve to use….these do go bad and can be replaced…a plug like fitting on the top of pump about two inches down usually holds this in…on some pumps they are held in with snap rings
