I have a non submersible pump and it is very loud. How can I make it quiet?

Its a non submersible pump that I keep underneath my aquarium to pump water from my wet dry filter up into the aquarium. it sounds so loud even when i have the front doors underneath the tank closed. it also gets kind of hot on the metal base of the pump. can i have it covered up somehow or something? how can i also do this safely considering theres a little bit of a heat issue. i dont think its any vibration issue though. the pump is just loud

Some pump are just simply loud. You stated that this is non submersible pump. Is it sitting underwater in the sump? This is a inline pump and should not be really underwater. It was designed to run dry as an inline pump. These pumps are used for close loop in aquariums.

If it is siting on the floor and not in the water, you can prevent it from vibrating is by wrapping it in towel.

I want to make a wind powered water fountain for the yard. I found a submersible pump that uses 2.16 kwatts.?

i’m not sure exactly what type of filter that is but it sounds like the pump needs water in it as a coolant

It sounds like a bad pump or one that it working too hard. Try raising the pump higher, that way it won’t be fighting gravity. How long have you had it, and what type is it?
