How/where can I get or replace the cable for a submersible pump?
My dog chewed the wire. It is a 3 prone water resistant cord. Inside the cord I can see 3 wire ( a green, a white and a black wire). I’m scared to use my pump to pump the water of the pool cover because the cable is exposed. Any ideas in how to repair or where to get a new one?
Every UL listed cord has why type of cord it is either stamped on the cord or "written" on it. It has to be labeled at least every foot, so you have plenty of cord to identify what cord it is. The labeling will tell you what size of conductors…..ie……16 AWG……and whether it is SO, SJO, and the many other types of cords that are available. If you were to call your local electrical supply house……ie…..Graybar, Border States, CED, Crescent Electric, Independent Electrical Supply……there are a million others……they should be able to tell you what kind of cord to buy. You might even be lucky enough to find it at Home Depot or Lowes. If you don’t understand what your looking at, you could email me and tell me everything that is "written" on the cord and what town you live in and I’ll tell you what kind of cord to find and I could make a few calls and find out where you can get it at.
why the submersible pump takes high current or burnt after some time if it is run wihout water?
Check very carefully, if none of the wires are nicked or cut, you could use some heat shrink tubing. There are kinds that are rated for use on submerged cables.

I am not a licensed electrician.
If you can take apart the pump and find where the cord connects to the pump then you may be able to fix it. If you can disconnect the ruined cord and find a new cord then you should be fine.

I did a repair like this a few years ago……I went to a large building supply store and picked up three heat shrink tubes to fit the size on the inner wires and then one large water proof to fit the outside of the entire wire.
I cut the wire in half at the damage area and stripped the outside sheath back two inches on each side.
Then slide a six in piece of waterproof heat shrink tubing over one side of the whole wire. make sure it is the correct size for the wire you have. Loose but not more than an eight inch of play.
then I stripped the inner sheathing on each of the three wires back a half inch of so.
then slide a 1.5 inch piece of heat shrink on each of the three wires. solder the wires back together and cover the bare wires with the tubes and shrink with a blow dryer or heat gun.
Then cover the whole break with the large waterproof heat shrink, leaving a few inches over the outside sheath on each end and shrink the tubing. The waterproof heat shrink usually uses more heat, so you might need a heat gun or propane torch to do this.
My cable was buried and very long, so I didn’t want to dig it up and replace it all, and the heat shrink was only a few dollars.
(PS)……..be sure to use a solder iron and not a torch to solder the wires…….a torch will shrink the tubing before you have it over the wires.
You can also bring the pump into any place that repairs motor and have them replace the wire for you

The only danger of having a chewed cord is the possibility of someone or something coming in contact with 120 volts at the damaged area. If this is unlikely, or can be made to be unlikely, stop a take new view of the situation. If you can actually see shiny copper in the damaged area, you have some options. If the damaged area is not usually submerged, you have other options. In my opinion, the heat-shrink sleeves are the 4th or 5th best options, depending on the nature and location of the damage. Consider also that if the copper conductor is mostly intact, and if you can separate the other wires enough to prevent them touching each other, and if the damaged area is not submerged, you can just wrap some black tape around it. BUT, more info would be helpful. This has the potential to be very dangerous, so proceed cautiously. But also provide pictures, if you can. Good luck, and stay safe.

Listen to Jimmy, or contact the manufacturer of the pump and order a replacement. Be aware that warranties are voided if tampering [heat shrink tubing] is done to the cord.
