Recycling Rain Water

On April 30th, the 100 Hour Challenge judges awarded the “Renewable Water Supply” project with the award for “Most Social Value Created” as well as the “Popular Choice” award.
****************************************

As part of the 100 Hour Challenge at the University of Wisconsin, participating students were given $10 vouchers to UW SWAP, a university owned resale store. The objective was do something entrepreneurial with the items bought from SWAP, document the outcome and to share it with others. The projects are critiqued under the following categories:
* Most value (money) generated
* Most social value generated
* Most creative

The concept featured in this video is not new, but unlike many traditional rainwater caches, it takes advantage of a water pump which pumps the stored rainwater anywhere the non-potable water is needed, allowing the reservoir to be located underground. The entire system can theoretically provide a sustainable supply of water to be used for irrigation outside or in the home. The main items used include: $5 115 volt water pump (placed in the reservoir, used to transport water to irrigation site) $5 indoor fan (the top is used as a funnel to collect water from the roof gutter)

How do I tell if my 4"Berkeley submersible water well pump is burned out without pulling it from the well?

First check to see that there is power going down to the pump, check the fuse and any loose connections between the fuse and the junction box next well. If you have power going down, then you need to pull out the pump to determine the problem. One problem that I have encountered is having an earwig stuck between the electrical contacts located next to the pressure regulator that turns the pump on & off, also try cleaning the contacts with sandpaper.

Im looking to install a sink in my basement but would need a tank and pump for the waste. Any ideas?

Im sure its been done by many ppl. Im just trying to find the right tank and pump for the job. One that when it gets filled to a certain level the pump will turn on and pump it to my sewer pipes. I need it since my sink would be lower then my pipes run. Any ideas or websites would be greatly appreciated

How do I rate a pressure pump? As far as what's good and what's bad.?

Basically I'm looking for how to tell a high quality pump from a bad to average quality. Thanks. Oh and the pumps for a pressure washer…I think. I'm asking this for my father.

Is it possible to calculate GPM of flow if I know I have 13psi in a 1 1/2 Schedule 40 PVC pipe?

I am trying to approximate gallons per minute flowing through a 1 1/2 schedule 40 PVC pipe that is reading 13 psi. This is for a swimming pool. The only other thing in the line is a sand filter (this is where the psi gauge is) and a few elbows. The 1 HP pump (240 Volt, 7.5 amps measured) is about 1' above the level of the pool water. Because the 1 1/2" pipe branches to several small pool inlets I cannot calculate the entire pipe size/footage except to say that the pump is 15' away from an 11,000 gallon pool that is 12' X 28'. Obviously, the easiest thing to do would be to install a flow meter, but I don't have one and it got me wondering if I could get a close approximation from the information that I do have available.

Thanks for your thoughts.

you're going to have to calculate the lost work due to friction and changes in pressure and height on each of the seperate pipes, add them up, and then calculate for the main pipe. Then find out how much work is required, you can find that and then looking at charts you can determine an impellar speed at the flow rate you want
