how can you check a fuel relay switch on 1995 grand prix and where is it located at?
ive pulled the pump out and I have voltage (the key is in on position) to the float switch at top position i have 12 volts. As you lower the float, voltage decreases to about 2-4 volts at bottom position of float but no power to the (pump?) part. before I started dismanteling I had pulled off the lines to tank and couldnt get gas to flow out. So basically I cant figure out if its the pump thats bad, a short somewhere, or the relay switch possibly,, any answers for this? car ran good, then one day it started to sputter a little then died .now it wont start. it will once in awhile sputter start it spits and sputters (runs like its full of water you would think) then dies outits a 3.1 liter v6 19995 pont grand prix… thanks
dont worry about the float, its only there for your gas gauge. check the power and ground to the pump. with the key on you should have power to the pump for about 3 seconds. this primes the pump for starting. While cranking and running it will be continuous power. Now if you have that you whole power circut including your relay is good. next check for a good ground to the pump. If its bad its just a body ground and repair it. Check it with a test light by poiwering on end and touching it to the ground. will be grounded at all times. fuel pumps in all these gms were very notorious for failing. you most likely have a bad pump.
